Capitol Hill Arts Center v2
Seattle, Washington

Schemata Workshop joined local arts organizations in their ongoing efforts to nurture and grow the arts in the Capitol Hill community. In 2007, the founder of CHAC engaged us to develop a compelling concept for relocating to a new, mixed-use building in the heart of Capitol Hill that would provide space for performances, restaurants, clubs, and a variety of gathering spaces. We were inspired by the request for a "Capitol Hill-specific, neighborhood version of a Lincoln Center" (NYC) that would engage the public streetscape with a bold civic presence to provide an arts destination for Seattle. The collective efforts of many resulted in the formation of the Cultural Overlay District Advisory Committee and the support of the City Council.

The architectural concept developed during our efforts in 2007 influenced substantial revisions to the earlier building design (by the previously retained architect). Schemata Workshop completed the interior improvements of the office headquarters for the developer, Capitol Hill Housing.
