Schemata wins award from EPA

Rendering by Schemata Workshop [enlarge]

Seattle's Schemata Workshop was a winner in the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's second annual Lifecycle Building Challenge competition. The competition acknowledges innovative green building ideas that reduce environmental and energy impacts and reduce the amount of construction and demolition debris sent to landfills.

Schemata won the award for professional-unbuilt work for its prefabricated building, Workshop. The Workshop is made of prefab building components for efficiency and minimum waste. The building is envisioned to hold office and residential space. The building is elevated on concrete piers and cantilevers over another structure on-site.

Only the existing building and concrete piers will remain after the building is relocated for its next lifecycle.
