sustainability
While we have LEED accredited professionals on staff, we don’t believe sustainability to be simply satisfying criteria on a checklist. There are many aspects to sustainability. The most prevalent in mainstream America today seems to focus on material selection – i.e., bamboo floors, low VOC paints, or energy efficient fixtures. While these are important, we take a more holistic view. We consider building orientation and massing to optimize passive solar and natural ventilation; proximity to neighborhood goods, services, and public transit; as well as the economics of affordability, compact unit size, and water/energy consumption. We consider passive strategies such as southern orientation and natural ventilation before employing active strategies such as solar hot water collectors or PV panels.
