cohousing in denmark and the pacific nw
Grace studied over 20 cohousing communities in Denmark as a UW Valle Scholar. A relatively new housing concept in the US, cohousing is widely understood and respected by Danes. Grace and Mike were welcomed into a variety of urban and rural communities for extended visits and community participation.
the pacific northwest is home to a growing number of cohousing communities, each trying to foster community in the maelstrom that is contemporary North American life. The common house is a critical social space for cohousing communities, and its design will directly impact the opportunities for interaction and community involvement afforded to a community's residents.
