Yelm Highway Community Park
community gathering for sports and other events

Schemata was responsible for the design and documentation of park structures, including a 3,500 square foot office building, an 8 stall gender-neutral restroom building that also contains food truck support and maintenance space, and a pre-fabricated maintenance building.

The Office Building has a residential scale and appearance to respect the adjacent neighborhood.  It is intended to serve park staff with a supervisor’s office, drop-in satellite work stations, break and meeting rooms, and a locker room with a separate entry to allow workers to change out of work clothes and clean up, with ease of maintenance and ease of cleaning as priorities.

Schemata collaborated with a pre-manufactured building company to design the Maintenance Building, which features two tall equipment bays and an outdoor wash bay area. The roof area will also include solar panels.  The design is meant to evoke the utilitarian barn buildings that were originally present on the site.

The Restroom Building, with its butterfly roof appearing to float lightly over the masonry and wood enclosure, is naturally ventilated.
