Crossroads Community Center Kitchen
kitchen renovation into a versatile hub
Crossroads Community Center serves one of the most diverse neighborhoods in King County. While there are many community events held in the multipurpose room, very few of them involved food as the kitchen did not have any equipment to cook or heat food. Due to summer and afterschool programming and a desire to better serve their community, the Center staff identified a need to upgrade their kitchen to be more useful for teaching and food preparation. Schemata Workshop worked closely with the Parks Project Manager and Center staff to develop a kitchen design that would allow for the teaching of cooking skills to children and teaching adults to cook cultural foods, as well as to better accommodate rentals from individuals and organizations who wanted to cook cultural foods in the Center for their celebrations and holiday gatherings.
Schemata Workshop developed three options that were small, medium, and large in terms of intervention and provided the Client with ROM costs. After selecting a preferred direction that would likely achieve the desired functionality and budget, Schemata refined that option into a full Schematic Design set for further cost estimating and Client decision making. Renderings of the completed space offered Center staff with visuals for the vision they helped create. The project is starting design development in January 2026.
